Meet Dr. Okezie


Okezie Okezie, MD, FAAPMR, is a Board-Certified Interventional Pain Specialist since 2006 with more than 18 years of experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He serves the Texas communities of Humble and Baytown at Interventional Sports and Pain Management Associates, a practice that provides patients with Pain solutions including the latest in alternatives to major surgery and medications. Dr. Okezie has also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas medical branch in Galveston, Texas. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Dr. Okezie received his bachelor’s degree at Xavier University of Louisiana while also conducting numerous biological research projects at the Center for Neural Science at New York University and the University of Notre Dame. With a deep interest in Biology, Dr. Okezie always knew he wanted to use his gift of science to help others. Shortly after graduation, he began attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. Before earning his Doctorate in Medicine in 2000, Dr. Okezie was awarded a research fellowship position at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where he helped conduct clinical studies at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. That fellowship deepened Dr. Okezie’s interest in neuromusculoskeletal medicine, inspiring the young doctor to start a postgraduate residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine/University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Dr. Okezie earned a subspecialty fellowship training position in Interventional Pain Management with the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston once he completed his residency. Shortly after he gained board certification in Interventional Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he was awarded the high merit of Fellow by the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2005. As an Interventional Pain Management Specialist, Dr. Okezie focuses on providing comprehensive individualized pain management plans to increase each patient’s quality of life. He has even conducted an outpatient comprehensive pain management program, directing outpatient physical therapy at Beltway Wellness and Rehabilitation in Houston. In 2013 and 2014, Dr. Okezie was on the America’s Top Physicians list and was later featured in H Texas Magazine’s Top Doctors spread in 2013 and 2016, and nominated in 2018. In addition to these prestigious awards, Dr. Okezie was also recognized by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals 2017 Publication of “The Leading Physicians of the World.” He received The Patient's Choice Award in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, and also earned the award for Compassionate Doctor in 2011. Dr. Okezie even received The Newt Gingrich Champion of Medicine Award in 2010.
